Our Programs

Virtual Summer 2020

Here’s what you need to know about our Virtual Summer programs:
  • A minimum of 5 participants is required in order to operate each class
  • All classes are approximately one-hour and meet Monday-Friday each week (except Friday, July 3.)
  • All classes are conducted on the Zoom platform and require internet access
  • Classes are live and start promptly at the designated time unless otherwise specified
  • Parental supervision is required during each class
  • There will be two or more staff members facilitating each class
  • Most classes will require basic supplies you may already have at home
    (No materials are included in the class fee.)
  • A specific list of supplies/materials will be sent weekly to participants
  • If a specific software or specific equipment is required for a class, that information is listed in the class description
  • Participants/parents are expected to follow the Code of Conduct during each class
  • The fee for each class is $50 per week, and the fee includes FUN FREEBIES (note: you must also register for the FUN FREEBIES)
  • Cancellation Policy: Requests for cancellation must be emailed to summercamp@friendsbalt.org prior to 12 Noon on the Wednesday preceding the start of the class. Refunds will not be issued for requests received after that time.

Fill out the Virtual Summer Application. The application contains the Code of Conduct, a release and waiver. Please read all information carefully.

Weeks 1-8 (June 15 through August 7) Virtual Offerings


Food & Stories
Ages 4 to 9
Start your day with some friendly faces, food, and a good story! The teacher will read a story and will lead an activity focused on food! Children engage in hands-on lessons in cooking safety, measurement skills, and ingredient use and create fun art projects involving food! (Projects will involve assembling ingredients; no actual cooking.)

This program is offered Week 1 (June 15-19), Week 2 (June 22-26), Week 5 (July 13-17), and Week 6 (July 20-24) at 10 AM. You may sign up for more than one week!

Music & Movement
Ages 4 to 9
Get ready for a groovy time of singing, dancing, and fun games! Join our teachers and friends in an active program of music-based games and rhythmic activities that will keep young musicians entertained and on their feet! Children will enjoy hands on lessons in musical concepts (loud/soft, high/low, fast/slow), creating music, musical expression, rhythm patterns and games! Plus, movement activities that will engage your child’s gross motor and problem solving skills!

This program is offered Weeks 1 through 4 (June 15-July 10); Week 6 (July 20-24); and Week 8 (August 3 – 7) at 2 PM. You may sign up for more than one week!

Virtual Artists
Ages 6 to 13
Explore a mix of mediums with digital and physical art projects! Using household supplies and online tools, children will be creating artistic masterpieces to display at home! With fun new techniques and concepts to approach drawing, painting, crafting, and more, children will want to set up their own art studio by the end of this program!

This program is offered Weeks 1 through 8 (June 15-August 7) at 10 AM. You may sign up for more than one week!

Imagination Online
Ages 7 to 10
Join our Imagination Online teacher as we stage our first ever virtual production! Young actors will gain confidence and discover hidden strengths through creative writing, improvisation, and collaborative activities. Plus, there will be tons of fun theatre games!
Supplies Required: This course will use basic items and supplies mainly for writing and costuming.

This 3-week program is offered Weeks 2 through 4 (June 22-July 10) at 11 AM culminating in a virtual performance on July 10!

Tech Tapas Online
Ages 7 to 10
Dive in to a wide variety of online offerings with our Tech Tapas menu! Enjoy personal instruction as we utilize some of our favorite Tapas programs all from the ease of your home devices! Projects will explore topics such as audio, video, digital art, and photography.

Supplies Required: This course will require specific, free, software. A laptop or desktop computer is required; tablets or iPads will not work.

This program is offered Weeks 1 through 8 (June 15-August 7) at 11 AM. You may sign up for more than one week!

Writing with Friends; an online creative writing lab
Ages 9 to 14
Writers and actors, this lab is for you! Given daily prompts, students will create short stories, skits, monologues, poetry, etc., and receive questions and critiques from the teachers and fellow writers. On Fridays, there will be an opportunity for students to present some of their favorite compositions and celebrate their accomplishments. Interact with friends and cultivate your unique writing talents from the comfort of your home!

Supplies Required: This course will use basic items and supplies for writing.

This 2-week program is offered Weeks 5 & 6 (July 13-24) at 11 AM.

Take Three; an online improv lab
Ages 10 to 13
Join your fellow actors, thespians, and musicians in our first ever online improv lab! We will craft monologues, play a variety of improv games, and prepare acts for a virtual performance. This is the perfect way to cultivate your unique talents from the comfort of your home!

Supplies Required: This course will use basic items and supplies mainly for writing and costuming.

This 3-week program is offered Weeks 2 through 4 (June 22-July 10) at 2 PM culminating in a virtual performance on July 10!

Virtual Builders
Ages 10 to 13
Building from home has never been easier! Using household objects and creative thinking, children will construct, design, and craft various structures and creations as resourcefully as possible! Budding architects will explore building and design techniques with projects that may include toothpick bridges, designing floor plans or landscapes, and beyond!

Supplies Required: This course will require specific (free) software installed on your device. Some additional craft supplies will be needed, and a supply list will be provided.

This program is offered Week 4 (July 6-10) at 1 PM.

Animation Online
Ages 10 to 14
Watch your ideas come to life in our favorite animation course! Utilizing online software, participants will create and design their very own animations using classic animating techniques in a variety of ways to bring their stories to life with flair! Children will mix together various animating techniques and styles to complete short tasks and compile their techniques together for their own personal projects!

Supplies Required: This course will require specific (free) software. A laptop or desktop computer is required; tablets or iPads will not work.

This 2-week program is offered Weeks 1 & 2 (June 15- 26) at 1 PM and Weeks 5 & 6 (July 13-24) at 2 PM.

Virtual Photography
Ages 10-14
In this camp we will shoot photos using our phones or digital cameras following prompts from the teacher. We will join together to play games exploring the application PIXLR, learning how to make small edits as well as layer images to create works of art. Some fresh ideas and some tech tips should get you rolling on endless photo fun for the rest of the summer. At the end of each week, we will have a photo party where we will take some time to look at all of our photos and reflect together.

Supplies Required: This course will require specific, free, software. A laptop or desktop computer is required for classes (as we will be working while zooming); some editing can be done on tablets, iPads or phones. A phone or tablet with camera or digital camera is required.

This 2-week program is offered Weeks 5 & 6 (July 13- 24) at 1 PM.

Virtual Makers
Ages 10-14
This summer, engage children in hands-on challenges as they explore cool apps to create animations, augmented reality scenes and art in a variety of mediums! Makers utilize real world materials as well as digital software to design innovative creations. Through creative problem solving and applied skills, campers will be able to jump any hurdle and create solutions through basic engineering principles. Developing these unique skills will surely set you up to be a Maker for life!

Supplies Required: This course will require specific (free) software installed on your device. Some additional craft supplies will be needed, and a supply list will be provided. Tablet or phone may be required to use some software.

This program is offered Week 7 (July 27 – 31) and Week 8 (August 3 – 7) at 1 PM. You may sign up for more than one week!


Sports & Stats
Ages 10-14
Join us for a hands-on look at sports and statistics. Learn how math is used every day in sports including scorekeeping, probabilities, records, and tie-breakers. Our summer statisticians will enjoy this opportunity to gather with friends and sharpen their math skills from home!

This weekly program is offered Week 7 (July 27 – 31) at 2 PM.


Senior Soirée
Ages 10-14
Get together with friends and Mr. Sam for fun camp games! Featuring classic activities such as drumming, cooking, and game-shows, our oldest participants will get to enjoy some of their favorite camp experiences from the comfort of their home.

This weekly program is offered Weeks 2-8 (June 22-August 7) at 3 PM. You may sign up for more than one week!


Math Tune-Up
Ages 11-14
Round out your summer with our Virtual Math Tune-Up. Featuring a mix of helpful strategies, fun games, and engaging examples, use this time to get your math skills ready for the upcoming school year.

This weekly program is offered Week 8 (August 3 -7) at 2 PM.


Weeks 1-8 (June 15 through August 7) FUN FREEBIES Featuring Mr. Steve and Captain Jack 


Monday Scavenger Hunts!
Ages 4 to 13
Summer wouldn’t be complete without scavenger hunts! Join us on Mondays as we race to see who can find all of the items on the scavenger hunt list! We’ll be on the lookout for common household items that you already have at home. This activity is sure to bring laughter and a few smiles!

This FREE program is offered on Mondays: June 15, June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, and August 3 at 12:30 PM. You may sign up for more than one week!

Summer Story Time
Ages 4 to 7
Grab your headphones or turn up the volume on your device, find a comfortable spot, and join your friends for Summer Story Time! We will pick a variety of kid-friendly fun stories to share. Who knows, we may even get to create our own stories!

This FREE program is offered on Wednesdays: June 17, June 24, July 1, and July 8 at 4:15 PM; and July 15, July 22, July 29, and August 5 at 12:30 PM. You may sign up for more than one week!

Friday Trivia
Ages 6 to 14
Get your thinking cap on! Every Friday during our Virtual Summer, you are invited to join us for a 30-minute round of trivia! These trivia questions will cover a variety of general-knowledge topics, plus fun questions about your favorite Summer at Friends staff and programs!

This FREE program is offered on Fridays: June 19, June 26, Thursday-July 2, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, and August 7 at 12:30 PM. You may sign up for more than one week!

Summer Pen Pals
Ages 4 to 14
Make a connection this summer! During this time of virtual programs, we’ve created a safe and fun way to make new friends and to stay in touch with old friends. Each participant in our Pen Pals program will be paired with another participant of a similar age and with similar interests; and our Virtual Summer staff will facilitate weekly correspondence by providing helpful (but optional) prompts. All correspondence will be done through the Summer Programs Office, and only first names will be used to promote internet safety.
Special Requirement: Parent will email notes (either typed or photos of a note) to the Summer Programs Office.

Participants are expected to send and receive one note each week.

This 4-week program is conducted asynchronously Weeks 1-4 (June 15-July 10).
